Manchester Regiment Sphinx Tail

Hi guys , ive been scratching my head (once again) about something I spotted on a few Manchester Reg buttons, the tale on the Sphinx is in at least 3 differen t positions and i cant seem to be able to find out what this signifies, if anything ???? any ideas or information would be great, ive attached a few pictures Thanx

They dont signify anything I'm afraid, just makers variations.

I even have one with no tail!
