Default ZAR badge

What Transvaal service used this badge - was it the ZARPs?

eBay item number:401004325395

Hi Rob,
Yes I believe it was ZARP's cap badge but this looks like a cheap cast copy (by the sand pitting to the rear of the badge) and the use of blades. I am sure these should have looped lugs.

The seller mentions that it is diestruck which it clearly is not.

I see this is the second of these that have come to market in the past month. The other was on a local SA market and that was also a cheap casting with clutch pins as attachements . It went for an astronomical amount again showing a lack of knowledge as to what the buyer is buying.

Regards
Steven

Hi Rob, ZARP cap badge. It looks okay to me. The fakes like this that I have seen have all been with lugs. Regards Andrew

Hi Steven, If I had seen a badge of this age with clutch pins, I would have been very suspicious too. Regards Andrew

ZARP cap badge: Can someone post a picture of a ZARP wearing a cap which is bearing a badge?

Default WM variety

My badge is WM and is extremely lightweight diestruck. It is genuine (had it for years) and has blades on the back. Can do better scans if anyone is interested. I have often wondered where it was worn and by whom.

Your one has a nice smooth back. The one on e b a y looks pebbled like it was cast in a sand mould with only the front polished smooth.

The blades look the same though.

My ZAR badge. Also die-struck and quite lightweight, though in brass. The remaining blade is bent over.
Cheers,
Alex

Why both brass and WM? I have both metals in the medium and large ZAR coat-of-arms badges and have always wondered why.

Interestingly, the same seller has another of these for sale - almost identical, but not quite: ebay item no. 401012995850
and is also selling other republican badges items no 401013515085 and 401013507624
Opinions on the authenticity of these?
Rob
