Default Does anyone recognise this modern badge?

Purchased this morning with some modern British and NATO badges. Any ideas as to who would have worn it please?

Doesn't look British to me, sorry I can't help more than that.

You might try searching in South American related badge albums. It seems to me that I recall the shape of the knives on the patch as the design of a knife carried by a Special Forces unit from one of the South American countries. As memory serves me right (and it serves me right for having such a memory!!) the knife design is based on a native knife. However, it is not good as a fighting knife because of the hook at the end.

My thoughts anyway. Hope it helps.

Ian

Assuming the blades are machete type implements rather than bayonets of some kind, then they look to be of "bill hook' design, used in agriculture in many areas of the world I think, but I think they're the tool of choice for cane cutting? Which fits in with the South America suggestion ( & West Indies etc ).

Thank you for your suggestions gentlemen. The badge was amongst some NATO and Czech Republic items which may have led me to assume that they were European.

Interesting, so the blades represent AK bayonets?

The crest is derived from the HQ hometown's (Hranice na Morave) coat of arms that dates back to pre-1630's.. The knives are a heraldic representation of a vineyard knife, a tool similar to a grafting knife as the country has had a strong connection to winemaking.

Ak's have never been used by the czechoslovak socialist army as Czech comrades were able to develop an assault rifle of their own design the vz58. It does look somewhat similar, but the inner construction is rather different to the one invented by Kalashnikov.
