I think it's a foreign service helmet badge.

Hello Keith,

Sounds like a more original use for this badge!

However, I have seen a couple mounted onto white buff leather pouches possibly for bandsmen? Perhaps a few found a second home after their original Foreign Service use.

Smile Suffolk badge

I had one of these which had a pin originally, possibly for a pagri. In RJ Wyatt's book "Collecting Volunteer Militaria"he has an illustration of one on a bandsmans case attributed to 2nd VB Suffolk.
