Internal Combustion - Drivers Badge - A.C.I. 131/1942
One of the more unusual badges noted in ACI's a 'skill-at-arms' badge for drivers of 'Internal Combustion' engines, which took the form of a steering wheel. Nice to see the qualifiaction for such a badge, which was restricted to I.C. Drivers only.

Internal Combustion - Drivers Badge, A.T.S. - A.C.I. 426/1942
The wearing of the above mentioned badge was later extended to A.T.S. Drivers - ACI 426/1942.

I'm sure the 'IC' in this ACI is 'internal combustion' not Int Corps

The humorist might say that the IC and Wheel trade badge is that of the Int Corps and the wheel has fallen off the Intelligence Cycle (a conveyance all too well known to the Green and Grey fraternity)! More seriously IC is definitely Internal Combustion (as opposed to Driver, Horse/Mule etc).

Internal Combustion - Drivers Badge - A.C.I. 2540/1942
Towards the end of 1942 a new ACI appeared regarding the Internal Combustion badge informing us that it was to be worn by Corporals and below.

Ah, but which way up?
St Andrew's cross [saltire] or St George's? Can't have non-uniformity, can we? [I prefer the saltire as it is "stable" looking] I knew an RAF MT WO who said that in his boy service he met a "Driver, Steam" and also a "Rigger, Airship". |
