Default Interesting car boot finds

Car boot finds this morning - found all together.

Sand cast 9th Bn Glasgow Highlanders. The lettering on the top strap appears to have been 'chased out' - probs as it didnt cast well from the mold. Interested, if anyone has one or knows anything about these.

Nice WW1 Welsh Fusiliers - signs of soldiers friend pink staining on the rear.

What I believe is a WW1 Labour Corps example. There is a strengthening bar applied on the rear behind the rifle muzzle. If anyone can confirm this is an early example, I would be grateful.

Regards all

Bess

Default 9th HLI

An interesting badge, The 9th Btn HLI served on the Western Front during the Great War and there was little chance of getting a "sandcast" badge made there, the loops are not typical of sandcast badges and look to be added after casting.

9th Btn HLI have had some strange badges, I have one with "Glasgow Highlanders" on the upper scrolls and "Black Watch" on the lower scrolls, so yours might a prototype badge.

Only an opinion and others may think different.

The only other option is that its an out and out fake . . . but its very similar to other 'bazaar' made badges I have.

Who knows.

That 9 HLI is nothing like I have ever seen. The lettering on the scrolls is not correct, so it is not cast from a genuine strike as most bazaar made badges were. I sort of like it in a way, but I could not claim it to be a genuine badge if it were mine.

Its been cast from a correct BW period badge I believe, but as I mentioned above the lettering on the scrolls has been chased out or created. In my opinion its been made to wear as a 9th Bn badge (either cast in France or overseas) and not made to deceive as a fake - if that makes sense.

The original cast badge badge was either a 9th Bn and the lettering wasnt readable and didnt cast properly and had to be 'improved' OR its a standard badge that has had the 9th Bn lettering 'created' for a wearer(s).

Its a very interesting piece to be fair.

I have had badges which are similar, this could well be a prototype that was submitted for approval.
