Default Pre 1900 13th Battalion Volunteer Militia Infantry Badge MM.77

Hi all, I was happy to add this to my collection of Pre-1900 officers badges today. I think it's a scarce badge and in fairly good condition considering its age and fragility.

Hi Roy, I think it's fairly rare even though it was worn from 1885-1910. Clive Law's book "Fuss and Fashion - 200 years of Canadian Military Headdress" shows these badges being worn on the pill box caps as well as the early forage caps.

The hats pictured in the book seem to show bullion badges with a gilt metal beavers. The badge pictured in Mazeas and mine have the beaver rendered in bullion. I have no idea if the method of construction is indicative of the age. As my version has a Victorian crown I place the age circa 1900. If I'm off, the Eastern collectors can correct me.

Cheers,

Greg

Wow, not much noise on this spectacular badge (except on the Face Book side).

Well, I think it awesome and with Roy's comments; that's 2 who have outstanding taste in Canadian badges!

hi greg
they don't make them like they used to.
I have some early bullion Australian items and the workmanship involved is special.
yours is a fantastic item.
