Ignoring the prongs on the back,it is portraying itself to be a 1913 pattern RFC pilots wing.
Now .sadly it has a bladed back and as such it is open to debate if these were ever issued like this. What is known is bladed examples were used as regimental picture frame devises. Also this style has also been copied like crazy, please see the two genuine pin back examples in my album. My own opinion is these were issued as i have seen RFC pilot groupings direct from the family containing bladed examples...but then thats only my humble un educated opinion. Sadly we will never be 100% sure until someone finds that historical manurfacturers bit of paper that may shed more light on the subject. All the best Casp |

I got the wing with these other items direct from the family. I dont know if the metal wing is original issue but I know it came from the same time and place.

Even the back on the pin-back version is much better finished. Can only suggest you try and get your mitts on a pin-back one and you may appreciate the difference a little more. I don't the numbers issued for the pin-back - but it seems harder to get hold of than the bladed one. Good luck. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=16436 |
