Somerset L.I. Badges
Hello all,
I am continuing to sort through some of my recent purchases for re-strikes. These 2 Somerset L.I. badges I am uncertain about. The second badge appears to be made of brass or GM and has been plated, the brass shows through the plating on the high points on the front. The slider is also brass and has been plated, and shows clearly where the slider is folded at the top. Thanks in advance for all replies – Regards Alan Y. Somerset L.I.
The Somerset Light Infantry reduced the size of the white metal cap badge sometime in the late 1930's, long before berets were worn by Infantry.

Somerset L.I.
Alan, it is a badge that I would say is good, over the years I have had several of the smaller size badges probably due to the fact that the Somerset L.I. were stationed in the village where I grew up in the early part of WWII.

Thanks Rob,
That’s reassuring. Was the larger badge phased out after the introduction of the smaller badge or did the Regiment have both sizes at the same time ? Regards Alan. |

Somerset
Alan,
Who knows, I think most of the wearers of this badge are now long gone, no doubt some members kept their originals long after being re-badged. Rob |
