Victorian? Crown Devonshire
There is another example of the alternate Crown Devonshire Regiment badge on Ebay at the moment.
120996284645 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1209962846...84.m1436.l2649 I would really like one of these in my collection but I have some concerns. The previous examples I have seen have varied in specifcation. WM or GM Crown Braising holes to rear or not Pierced or unpierced centre around castle I haven't seen one with a slider yet? The theory seems to be that they were locally made in India so would this make it more likely for them to vary? What are your thoughts please? Rob. |

Hi Rob
Yes I had forgotten that variety. Well the one on Ebay is now at £49 so I don't think I would be bidding it even if it had braising holes. Rob. |

Rob, I was watching this badge, having bought the sandcast variety on a trip to Norfolk a few weeks ago, I was interested, this one seems to be die-struck and I doubt if it is an original it was made overseas.
I have not visited the Devon and Dorsets museum for over forty years, so the old brain cell is stretched if I saw a version of this badge there, I think this may well a senior NCO's badge. Rob |
