3rd Vol Battalion Lincs Regt Cap Badge
Currently appearing on our largest Internet Auction site are badges of the captioned unit bearing an additional small scroll " South Africa 1900 - 02 " affixed underneath the main scroll.
Accepting that elements of 3rd VB Linc Rgt did serve in SA amongst the 2nd Lincs, how did this scroll get into the scheme of things ? |

The badge will have a 'clown' face and is a well known fake.

The 2nd Batt Lincs were supported by companies from the 3rd, 4th and 5th Battalions and served Jan 1900 to the end of the 2nd Boer War. The entitlement by these battalions to SA honour flows from this. I have some notes I will check tonight on whether the 1st VB Lincs have the SA honour but I have a picture of Sphinx VB badges with the additional SA scroll and the Sphinx is the non- smiling genuine type and will check which battalions wore this. Such badges are all lugged.
Cheers Dean. |

3rd Vol Bn Lincs Rgt
My Thanks for these replies;current examples on offer all appear to have the ' clown' or ' smiling face ' sphinx and are therefore best avoided.

Yes best to avoid VB Lincs badges with or without SA scrolls with the smiling clowns face and these are generally wrong with a slider. The smiling clown face is common on the post-1946 Royal Lincolnshire badges and is ok.
Have a look at my Lincolns album, some more to go in on my return to Australia, cheers Dean. |
