The Gaunt plate has been identified as a fake. And there are brass LdSH badges made by a well known British vendor who specializes in reproduction badges.

Well poop.
Thanks Bill, I had not seen that thread. In the 2009 one, you seemed sure it was OK. My bad for not seeing the most recent one but then again there is no mention whatsoever of an LSH badge in that linked thread. I guess I should have looked harder. I acknowledge that mine has a Gaunt plate matching the ones not reckoned as good. Pity. Where is it that the badge itself is no good? regards Darrell

The Gaunt plate ones were made by a known forger. The vendor has offered and continues to offer a wide range of Cdn (and Brit & Commonwealth) badges. His copies are all brass, natural finish. If this was a CEF version, one would expect it to be pickled or darkened.
Re my earlier assessment. When more information becomes available, one should re-examine their conclusions to make sure they are consistent with the new evidence. Things change. And the forgers hope they are ahead of the curve and can sell their crap without concerns.
