Default Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders glengarry

This ASH glengarry wears the Royal Regiment of Scotland badge. The one who gave it to me told that after amalgamation, the Regiment received the new cap badge but not the new glengarry, and worn it like that for a short time. And that it was given to him by the storekeeper of the regiment. Does it seem plausible or too good a story ?
