Default TJFF - What do we have here?

First of all can I say I am sure this is genuine Trans Jordan Frontier Force and of the period. I am not so sure however that it is a cap badge.

Although it is exactly the right size it is too thin, in fact it weighs less than a contemporary collar badge.

The seller said he thought the lugs had been squeezed and split so it could be worn on an Arab head dress. It's too insubstantial for that and in any case such badges usually have brooch fastenings.

I've never seen lugs with feet like that and they are too flexible. They also seem to have been clipped short at some time.

Anyone got any ideas how it was worn? I have a theory but I'd like to hear what others think first.

Here are pics of my TJFF badge. It is rather thinner than one might expect and it has very long lugs. I think that it is ok. It has the look of age about it.
