Default Economy TF badges 1916.

Morning all,
I'm trying to find out which of the TF battalions were issued their badges in all brass as an economy measure in 1916.
Gaylor lists 13, but that's probably incorrect.
Is it known how many were issued and if so, which ones ?
Appreciate any info, or better still, if anyone has any and could show them, that would be great.
Thank you.

A superb article by Julian Bowsher and David Linaker, on the subject of 1916 all-G/M badges, in the Military Historical Society Bulletin, vol 66, no.262, of November 2015 (pp.78-88)

Also covered in numerous threads here on the forum over the years. A quick search should bring up what you're looking for.

Regards,

JT

Have you looked here:

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...p?albumid=2871

There were surprisingly few TF badges authorised.

So the TF Battalions that didn't have them are;
Suffolk's, Leicester's, East Lanc's, Dorset's, 6th Hampshire's and 10th Middlesex ?

As I understand it the WD issued the TF badges in early 1916 and they only issued a few designs and by means not all of the 1908 TF patterns.

They had only authorised a few TF designs for the all brass measure before all TF were granted Regular badges.

Yes, sorry - I just haven't had time to complete Part 2 of the 1st WW cap badge articles. But as I retire in a few months, I hope to get on with it ! This will deal with TF etc -there are 10 infy badges, but also Yeo and var services.
But certainly there is a lot of general info in Part 1

Thank you to all who replied.
10 for the infantry seems like all except one or two
were issued them. Looking forward to part 2 to find out how many were made.

The non regular badges are notoriously difficult to define in the archives. There is no 'central' list of badges adopted in 1908, in fact very few were 'authorised' before 1915 - when the WO took over their authorisation and provision. We know of a WO tender put out in 1916 which gives numbers required - but how many were completed or how many later tenders is not known (see Part One). In fact the numbers of 'all GM' badges was less than that originally envisaged in the year before - instead of giving badges for eg different battalions, many now wore the same (new) badge. Then, of course, there were developments in 1917 !
Such complications (as well as full time work) has seen a delay in getting Part 2 out.
Bear with me
Julian

Thanks Julian,
Completely understand, nothing is straight forward in this hobby, good luck with your writing.
