Hello GTB

A very nice button, an officer's mess waiter's button if I am not mistaken. Any chance details of the backmark, if there is one.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi GTB,

It is a mess waiters button to the 28th and subsequently the Gloucestershire Regiment. The backmark may give a clue as to which it is.

They come in 2 sizes the small (approx. 16mm) and large 25mm.
I have a large one in my collection (with a FIRMIN & SONS Ld . 153 STRAND LONDON backmark).

If you are looking to move it on - I would be very interested.

Regards

Ian

Thanks Roger and Ian.

I did know that button was associated with Mess Waitering as it is typical of the genre - flat. open back and with appointments distinct from the regular button device, albeit my notes are lost among diaries and files. Thanks for jogging my memory.

Size is for the smaller version (5/8" or 16mm).
Backmark is "FIRMIN'S. LONDON". Curiously the 'N's are mirrored!

Ian, thanks for your interest in the button. At present I have no thoughts of moving it on but I will keep you in mind if I regrettably have to.

Rgds

Hi there,

No problems at all, totally understand wanting to keep it.

Thanks for the size and backmark info, that will enable me to update my notes and I now know what I am looking for.

All the best

Ian
