Default a very curious QVC Black Watch OR’s badge...

Good afternoon/evening all,

This one just arrived today. At first blush, it appeared to have inordinately heavy wear on one area near the extremity of each cross arm. This seemed very strange, and closer examination of the reverse revealed that each arm has had a single number neatly struck. 6843, if read clockwise from top left. Looks to have been done long ago. Anyone encounter such a thing before?

Hi Andy,

Seems like a plausible conclusion. I’ve seen examples of badges with genuine Regimental numbers struck or engraved on the slider, but never one with numbers actually struck into the badge itself. Clearly, the force of the strike affected the physical appearance of the obverse. Would it have passed inspection?
