RCAF trade badges and brevets
Hi there guys
I am somewhat mystified by the number of trade badges for the RCAF. I am ok with the horizontal double-winged brevets but it is the upswept double wing and single wing trade patches that confuse me. In one case it seems that the horizontal double-winged brevet for Search and Rescue Technician is replicated in the form of an upswept double-wing with a parachute in the centre. Also the same seems to happen with Flight Test Engineer and the Air Operations Loadmaster. Then there are the single wing trade patches which are worn on the RHS - there seems to be 27 of them plus another 14 for officers. I gather that none of the personnel who wear these would be aircrew? Is there some where that I can find out what all the symbols mean in these trade patches? Have tried the internet but only get a few answers from those that are for sale on e-bay. Regards Doug |

Hi Doug, I don't know if this will help you but, try this link and then go to Canadian Armed Forces, Aircrew Wings and Trade Qualification Badges....you can click on the badges to have a better look....
Jo http://jfchalifoux.com/ I also found this bit of information........ Air Force members who are part of Air Operations branch, when a half wing is worn it denotes the member's trade. Some trades (such as pilot and air nav) have a full wing, so no half wing is required. For air force personnel serving outside of Air Ops Branch, the half-wing is a branch badge (eg MPs, Admin/Log, etc). All branches have a hal-wing except chaplains, medical and CIC. Chaplains wear a cross, medical wear a caduceus(sp?).

try this:
http://admmat.mil.ca/dglepm/dsspm/en...rade_deu_e.asp I'm not sure if you will be able to link to it. Also IRT the straight and upswept SAR wing, it's actually Para Rescue with the upswept wing, and once SAR Tech became it's own trade within the CF the insignia changed to the straight wing. For a period you could find both being worn, (not by the same individual, but he could be qualified both). In the 1980s, a reorganization of the CF that re-introduced the 3 services distinctive uniform (DEU), produced a plethora of insignia, that required other badges to change or to evolve.
