The beret badges are interesting. They do not at first glanc look like the traditional UN badge. In the photo I had posted Earlier my assumption was an attempt to obscure/censor it. However the photo posted by Mike seems to show a similar beret badge.

I think "The Siege of Jadotville" film shows officers wearing metal /enamel badges and others wearing white embroidered with and without lettering above (for what that's worth).
Photos of the time seem to show the metal / enamel ones. |

Looks like the 3rd from left may have removed his badge from the cap, leaving a dark area that hasn't been sun bleached? Not sure.

OK , found out where the photo came from , it was an article in History of War magazine (2Nov 2017) titled : Seige of Jacotville Part III.
https://www.pressreader.com/uk/histo...81659665302024 It is basically an interview with Irish UN Veteran Tony Dykes , here is the full picture.

Re the helmets worn at Jadotville - there's a quote from Noel Carey in an item on that site - " I was alone in our trench with a plastic helmet on my head and mortar rounds exploding all around..........."
So it looks like it was a case of being issued M1 type liners only and not the steel shells. |

Very interesting thread. I enjoyed the film on Jadotville, and find all of the insignia really nice and a definite area to collect. Am I right in assuming that he patch with the clover leaf would have been worn by the unit in the movie/story?
Thanks, Terry |

Terry in looking at a post earlier in this thread it was stated that the Shamrock on red shield was worn 1964 to 1987.
