There's a couple of nice items in there if you are an Australian collector.

Thanks for the link. It is a nice jacket for sure! Looks like it just needs a good cleaning and pressing.

Thanks again David! I would still like it just for the insignia, but have never bought from an auction house so am not sure what additional expenses I would encounter. Then I would have to consider he shipping costs, but I'll keep an eye on it and see what develops - one never knows!

as an experienced and regular auction buyer I can positively reassure you you NOT to bother. For every £100 you spend you need to add a third onto it incurred in costs which include Commission, VAT and internet platform fees. On top of that to post a bulky and weighty tunic even within the UK would be a minimum of £25 plus VAT and to the USA probably treble that, The badges on the jacket are worth less than £50 so you can see how pointless it all would be. Buying at auction these days with their extravagant extra costs, you either have to really want something very badly for yourself or alternatively be able to buy it really cheap. regards

Thank you very much Simon! I have pretty much come to the same conclusion. I am really handicapped being a British collector and living in the US, but with the help of a good and valued friend/forum member I am able to reduce shipping costs by batching them. Without his help there are a lot of pieces I just wouldn't be able to get - when the item cost 5 GBP and the shipping to me is triple that, but to a UK address it might be 1-2 GBP.
Thanks again, Terry |

Yes, auction charges - even ebay charges - really take the pi55 and put off people using them. Both platforms shoot themselves in the foot and limit their potential business.
