Default West Surry FC?

I have some pictures of a fob which belonged to the Grandfather of my in-laws. Not military, but interesting none-the-less. On it are 3 pendants, two are hallmarked but look reasonably standard for a fob. However, the third (attached) is interesting:

My question is this, the fob attachment is inscribed to another man. I speculated it could have belonged to a friend who gave/bequeathed it. My in-laws GF was RHA in WW1 (Baumann 269004) and maybe C. Lindley was his buddy.

I guess it could be something to do with the West Surry Football Club? Maybe someone has seen something like this before?

Any info in tracking down its origin would be gratefully received

Regards, Tim

It appears to be one of the generic type of sports medallions that were made in Edwardian Britain. The obverse giving a sporting flavour with the reverse left blank for an inscription.

West Surrey is quite a large geographical area for a football club and I would expect that it refers to something else.

If you are thinking about the Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment, I would expect them to have Queen's in the title of their football team. Did your relative have a Surrey connection?

Thanks HW

Yep, the GF was from West Surrey, hence we speculated on the "WS" being West Surrey - and possibly Mr Lindley was a friend, either before the War, or from the War. The GF was Royal Horse Artillery so no connection with The Queen's I don't think.

Thanks for the reply and the info, I suspect at best we will just have plausible theories, and appreciate your thoughts.

Cheers, Tim

The inscription states WSFA - the FA I would imagine is Football Association, not a football club, but an association of clubs.

There's a Surrey FA in existence today, you could always get in touch with them see if they can offer any advice.

Doh!

Jerry, you are right, a typo, it is actually West Sussex, not Surrey (forgive me, I'm Australian )

Sorry Andy, for the wrong details, but thanks for looking into it!

Tim
