Unknown formation sign Germany 1948
These photographs came together and appear to be of a R.A. unit trained for airborne deployment. I know from other photographs that they are in Germany in 1946 or possibly later. They may also have previously been in India and Burma. These photographs were taken at a very specific location which I will reveal later. Can anyone please identify the formation sign that they are wearing?

Interesting in the first photo that he has his wings pinned onto the RH side of his blouse rather than the left.

The wings appear to be from the Indian airborne and if so that is where they wore their wings, John.

As I mentioned earlier there may well be an Indian connection. I purchased a shoebox full of photographs from a Leicestershire house clearance and on sorting them out they fall into two distinct halves. I have identified the officer that they belonged to and he served with the Royal Artillery in India and Burma. He clearly joined one of the Indian Parachute battalion as there are photographs of him wearing his wings in India.
The photographs in the first post of this thread were taken at Belsen no earlier than 1946 as there is also a photograph of a memorial put up one year after the liberation. Last edited by High Wood; 29-08-17 at 08:14 AM. |
