Overseas Forces Badges
Hi
This arrived the other day and initially I thought it was from the 1940's but when I saw it I'm now thinking 1920's. Can anyone date it Cheers Sean |

Hello Sean
That's a lovely poster! Unfortunately I can't get enough detail when I enlarge it but two points spring to mind. Quite a few of the badges seem to display a Victorian crown which might suggest it is earlier than you think - early 1900s perhaps? A few of the badges seem to be for Indian Cavalry regiments and Indian Infantry regiments and as they were all re-organised in 1903 and again in 1922 it should be possible to date the poster from the titles of some of those regiments. As I said I can't make out the details/titles well enough to give a date. I hope someone has got better vision (or a better computer) than me! Roger PS Just had a quick 'Google' of the artist's name and he appears to have been producing illustrations for the Boy's Own Paper around 1900-1903. Last edited by Cribyn; 24-05-17 at 07:36 PM. |

Very interesting Roger, I had thought the badges dated to WW1 or prior but thought it may have been produced later.
I will put some more pics up tomorrow Cheers Sean |

I have a similar Boys Own Paper fold out but of British army crests/badges which shows the same illustrations as printed on BDV "silk" cigarette cards, I may have one of RN crests too.
Any reference to them I've come across, which have always been passing mentions in general militaria books and the like states that they were published in the early 1920's. |

Just found it in an online book shop dated 1917/18 volume 40

I "think" I can see some pre 1922 Indian regiments, but you really need to post some better detailed pictures to avoid headaches.

The Canadian part of the list. Pre 1920 IMHO. Not only Militia, bit also CEF.

Second picture. A mix of South Africa, Austrlia, British India, etc.
The Indian army ones are all pre 1922. Top left: The New Zealand Rifle Brigade (Earl of Liverpool's Own), NZEF (Great War only). I would say a mix of pre 1920 badges.
