Halifax Rifles qc brass
Verification needed. The Halifax Rifles early brass qc badge (not the new issue) was a cadet corps badge? The correct badge for the Halifax Rifles reserve army, was the white metal example?

Halifax Rifles QC brass hat badge.....
Bill:
In answer to your question, I feel that the brass QC Halifax Rifles hat badge has nothing to do with the Halifax Rifles cadet corps. It does not seem logical that the cadet corps would have adopted a brass hat badge, where the Regt would have worn a W/M badge, before the Regt. went into oblivion in 1965. If anything, the cadet corps would have used the W/M issue until the die struck issues would have been used up post 1965, then would have gone out to contract non die struck W/M issues for future use. I`m sure that the cadet corps would have wanted to continue wearing the same coloured insignia post 1965, so to speak to keep the old badge visable in the local Halifax area. If anything, I would hazard the guess that the brass issue was made in error, and that only a limited number would have been manufactured after this error was identified. Just my 2 cents here.... Cheers, John S. |

Thanks John. CCW is often a pile of bs. It makes no sense for a brass Hal Rif badge to have been struck, either for the reserve regiment or the cadets. I wonder if it was simply struck to fill the collectors demand?

Halifax Rifles QC brass hat badge......
Bill:
From the look of the badge, I would say that the brass issues are exactly the same as the W/M issues, with only the colour being different. As such, I would suggest that these were made back in the day when the Regt was still active, IE: pre 1965. If this were the case, I would think that the regular W/M issues would have been available to collectors, and the demand for the Halifax Rifles QC badge would have been considerably less than what it is, and has been over the last 40 years or so, when the Regt went to nil strength, and the supply of regular badges dried up. I still think that the brass issue of the badge may well have been made in error. Cheers, John S. |

Here in Arizona (and the most of the US) CCW is your permit to carry a handgun (Concealed Carry Weapon).

Halifax Rifles QC brass badges
Having attended four summer camps for Army Cadets 1968-1972 I was well acquainted with the Halifax Rifles cadet corps; I have never seen a brass badge; both King's and Queen's crown versions were worn; some were white metal or pewter cast and have seen embroidered badges for officers'.;
my suggestion is that the brass HR badges may have been sales samples not approved by the parent militia unit. best regards, Ronald LeBlanc |

Here is one I picked up and will share for comparison.
This one has short, thick, round brass wire lugs. There is a piece of brass wire strangely brazed to the center of the crown. I initially assumed that it may have been attached for the purpose of plating? It is also, albeit very faintly marked Scully Ltd in the horn. Its a really nice badge, the pictures don't do it justice. I had never seen a QC in bright brass before. Just WM and brown brass. Having read this thread I guess its an error/unauthorized badge? Any idea when the error occurred? Bill, Does your badge happen to have a Scully mark by chance? QCHR.jpg QCHR2.jpg

I had always took that reference to meaning the brown brass variant. But now that you mention it, I think this might be it.
What are the lugs like on yours? I have images of another badge which shares the same lugs as Bills. Im curious to see if mine was possibly relugged. If so, they did a fine job.

Sand casted badges
In my collection i have the white metal and brass die stuck varietys as well as a chrome plated flat back with screw posts which would be a cadet badge. I also have 2 sand casted badges, in both white metal and brass with integral lugs. I associate these type of badges as being made in pakistan or india.

Halifax Rifles Brass QC
The badge shown above with the strange cut post on the crown is a bondy reproduction. The lugs are also in an abnormal position. if you look closely at the badge you should be able to find a grind mark on the lower part of the star on the reverse. This is where the badge was removed from the casting tree. The Pin on the back of the crown is probably for this as well.
