Queen's Surreys in Malaya
No responses to this one in the cloth badge section so now trying in the Infantry category. Any Queen's enthusiasts able to help?
The picture shows a 1949 pattern BD badged to The Queen's Surreys with the Home Counties Brigade sign on one arm and a wire embroidered 63rd Gurkha Brigade sign on the other. There is a GSM ribbon on the chest. The 1st Battalion served in Malaya from March 1954 to April 1956 but can anyone confirm from a regimental history that the Bn served with the 63rd Gurkha Brigade? I saw your original post but didn't post this link on it as you were asking for info. from a regimental history, but here goes.
"On the 1st July the Battalion came under command 63 Gurkha Infantry Brigade with the aim of attacking in conjunction with 2/6 Gurkha Rifles, the CT 'Border Committee' which operated mainly in the Mount Ophir area". http://www.queensroyalsurreys.org.uk...y/malaya2.html |
