Second World War Service Chevrons
What is the maximum number of SWW service chevrons that a Canadian enlisting in 1939 would be entitled to wear?

Ray, My count 39-40 = white, 40-41, 41-42, 42-43, 43-44, 44-45, 45-46, all red for a total of seven.

The question becomes: when did the regs stop the practice of awarding them? Bonus question - what was the maximum number of black SWW service chevrons permissible?

The end of the qualification period was Dec. 1945, so I am not sure if time after Sept 10 1945 would qualify for the seventh. I was wrong to cite 46.
If I interpret the regs correctly, the max is four for black ones.

I was going to say 6 including the 39er stripe. I was not aware 1946 was counted.

The most I have seen worn on British uniform is six. I don't think 1946 counted and am fairly sure they stopped wearing them in that year.

Hi Guys
Thanks for that. First one that I've seen. I guess I should ask if these were ever worn by Canadians? regards Darrell

The red/blue (or black) ones have been attributed to the navy, and may have been airforce as well. The army ones red/khaki. They are seldom seen on period Cdn tunics.
