Red Cross Rank Pips???

I have looked on the net for details regarding these pips and I could find no solid info on them. Are they WW1, WW2, which country used them etc?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I know these were worn by SA Red cross society, but may also have been worn by the British Red Cross Society at some point.

From my research the pips worn in South Africa were only worn by National officers (ie. Chief Commandant wore 3 pips). All regional and branch officers wore stripes on there shoulder boards.
Somewhere post WWII the national officers pips were replaced with gold braid stripes (Chief commandant having 4 stripes, etc).

Ah! If they were peculiar to the upper echelons of the SA red cross that would presumably make them fairly rare but if common to the BRRC, far less so.

The smaller version of these was worn by the Scottish Ambulance Service in the 1970's prior to the cloth insignia being issued. I think I still have a few kicking around that I found in the attic of Inverness ambulance station before it closed and was refurbished.
