Default WWII RCAF Pilot Wing & Ribbon Bar

Yesterday's find. The ribbon bar came with the wing.

I believe the rosette for those qualified to wear the battle of Britain clasp is officially in gold, although I have a tunic to a (VERY small) NZ air gunner which has one on the 39/45 Star ribbon and it to is silver.

I believe it was just 117 Canadian pilots.

Silver rosette is for the Bomber Command Clasp.

Not for a ribbon bar with obvious old age to it like this one.

Nor mine which is a period uniform and ribbon. I'd think that due to the low numbers they were not easy to find and so the usual silver was used instead!

Or the guilding has worn off? I'm not taking it off to inspect the reverse... LOL The tangs look goldish.

Rob:
A wonderful find. When did the military start using the "slide on" ribbon mounts vice sewing the ribbons to a bar? For some reason I thought that it had come much later in time. This one resets my time line knowledge on this practice.

I hadn't noticed the bend over tangs/prongs. Wartime ones I've got or have come across are all sew on. Not sure about Canadian made/issue ones...
