That looks like to 1988 prototype badge that was made but never adopted. Possibly worn on a parade in December, 1988 but still to be confirmed.

I know this is an old post but since that tiny image is actually a thumbnail of one of my photos from a badge I sold about 5 years ago on Ebay I suppose I better expand:

I picked up a small handful from the unit QM when I was in Tech Sqn 2/14 in 1989. A small number were manufactured in the mid to late 1980s but were never issued or authorised to wear.

The badge is 45mm high and 30mm wide. It has pins and clasps on the rear. It was manufactured by AJ Parkes Brisbane.

I think I have one left somewhere (missing a pin from memory) - I have dug out the old photos.
