Canadian Forestry Corps Question
My chum's father was in No. 60 Company of the 224th Canadian Forestry Corps in WW1. He asked which of the four Divisions this Company was attached to. I've done my best, but have struck out on the answer. Thanks all.

Hi militarycross,
The Canadian Forestry Corps Companies were not division assets during the First WW. They were organized into groups and served in the UK and France and Flanders. No 60 Coy was part of No 12 District, which served in the Bordeaux area of France and later Facture-Gironde.

Bonsoir,
I confirm, this batallion served from 1916, in France and England to make timbers and boards for the front. They were indispensable to victory even if their role is less glorious than the guys at the front. There were also deaths at home, many accidents. Here is my cap badge. JPV a french collector |

Thanks Bill and Jean-Paul. I am quite aware of their distinguished history producing 90% of all things wooden in the War. I have a wooden box created by a chap from the 238th in Windsor Great Park that I treasure. I'd just never thought or read anything on their formation.
So what then is their chain of command as regards their deployment? I should probably get a copy of Sawdust Fusiliers and read it. Thanks guys. I shall relate your details. phil

Good question re the chain of command. I suspect they were under the overall command of the BEF in France, if not the allied command. In the UK they were likely controlled by the War Office.
