Default RAF ... What are they for ??

Hello,

I have got these badges in a lot ...
Fist one very small 23mm with a lug ... is it a collar ?

A larger one, 34mm ... for side cap ??

And a "standard" 52mm ... for side cap or arm badge ???

Many thanks for your opinions .

Best regards .. Herve

Hi Herve

I think you'll find the first one is a RAF Medical Service collar badge with the snakes broken or cut off.

Regards

Graham

Hello Graham,

You're right ... and as you can see it has been finely cut.

Best regards .. Herve

After getting stern looks for giggling at my desk, I can only say that people have been asking this question for years, "RAF...what are they for"?

The best comment on the RAF I've heard is below, from the Telegraph in 2006:

Major James Loden, of 3 Para, based in battle-torn Helmand province, said more resources were "desperately" needed. He claimed that the RAF had been "utterly, utterly useless" at protecting British troops.

I've also heard them referred to as "the 100 year experiment" in the belief that by 1st April 2018 it'll be realised that tactical air support belongs to the Army and Strategic air to the Navy.

Sorry, thread diversion, back to work.

Ian H

Third one is a pre-1952 officers side cap badge.
Cheers,
Alex

Default Cannot see any pics?

Hi Guys,

Sorry if I'm being a bit daft here, I can see the description on the first post but not any graphics/pics to show the badges! I am logged in etc etc! Any help would be gratefully received!

Cheers for now

Johnny
