I’ve no idea on the red in the observers brevet I’m afraid, it was originally part of the Margaret nobbs collection.

Great badges! I especially love the Metal Observer wing, and those early red sleeve eagles on khaki!

Observer wings
I’d not realized items from the Margaret Nobbs collection had ended up being sold, I had heard that the aviation collection went to the RAF Museum.
Fantastic Observer wings and some other wonderful pieces |

The late Margaret Nobbs - RAF Badge Collection
For the record the RAF Museum published accounts (2005-2006) mention "Acquisions: A substantial collection of RAF Uniform Badges compiled by Miss Margaret Nobbs"

There is no shortage of original RFC flying badges, a great number were made, but, they have certainly become rather expensive to buy over recent years.

I take it that there where no notes to accompany this collection then?

Aargh! It’s not a brevet, it’s a flying badge! This is a brevet, which means certificate, diploma or licence in French
Here is a French Pilot’s Licence - called a “Brevet de Base”: |

Yes, the point's been raised numerous times and will no doubt continue to be........
Interestingly somewhere on the forum is an image of some form of official documentation in which a badge is referred to as a brevet. |

I believe there was one erroneous reference to the WSO/WSOp “Rear Crew Brevet” in QRs that has since been corrected. It is the WSO/WSOp Flying Badge and as graciously ordered by Her Majesty The Queen on 13 Sep 2019 at Buckingham Palace. |
