Hong Kong Police Insignia
Just for information ; - apart from the chrome and blue enamel cap badge ( worn by Chief Superintendents and below ) and the bullion ones worn by Assstant Commissioners and above, insignia ( chevrons, pips and shoulder titles are now woven). The reason being that complaints had been received that the metal versions had caused cuts and scratches to the wearers ( and to the room boys/batmen responsible for making up the uniforms ! ).
Does not appply to buttons or lapel badges where worn, which remain chrome. The use of trade badges (drivers, dog handlers and etc have been discontinued.Believed to have been introduced in stages since 1997. |

The cap badges worn by all ranks in the Royal Hong Kong Police and the post 1997 Hong Kong Police have always been metal. The only exception is the cap badge worn by the Band which is in bullion wire and is very large. See the appended photo of the current Commissioner of the HKP.
