Default King's Officer c.1880
One for Peter and Julian here, found while browsing. Incidently, having a look through ebay's photos and postcards categories often comes up with some real gems, especially if the seller has loaded them at large size.

I'm interested in the cap badge here, does anyone have one in their collection for a close up? Is it an officers' pattern only as I first thought it to be an HPC but then it has the strap end at the base?

That is the officer's "forage cap" worn between 1878 and 1902. The cap and badge are clearly described in the various Dress Regulations. Prior to 1881 it often had the numeral 8 below it.

Is it the same as the bi-metal badge Peter has posted on the pagri thread?
