BIG Thanks to BROOKIES
Hi All
I would just like to openly thank "BROOKIES" for returning an item of great Regimental significance back to its home here in Leicestershire. The item belonged originally to an Officer of the Leicestershire PAO Yeomanry. That Officer was 2ic A Squadron on the eve of battle 12th May 1915, during the early hours of the morning and in the heat of battle at Frezenberg Ridge on the Ypres salient he was wounded and had to withdraw. He recovered in England and was brought back to health and as a way of thanks and as a memento he gave his nurse a cigarette box inscribed with his name and Regiment. He recovered well enough to go back to the front but his luck ran out in 1918 and he died, missing in action, as an attached officer in the Machine Gun Corps. The cigarette case stayed within the family of the nurse until eventually it was given to BROOKIES........ he in turn kindly informed us of its existence and it is now on its way home to Leicestershire and to the Carillon Museum. Well done Brookies and thank you.
