The first line, I don't know what a big LAD is. They are all wearing REME cap badges and cloth shoulder titles, so that makes them REME I would assume. The intricacies of the REME and the RAC training units are not something I know about, along with plenty of other things.

Surely at this time REME personnel were doing basic training at 1 Trg Bn REME , Blandford (Regulars) and 2 Trg Bn REME , Honiton (NS) . REME wearing brass titles of the unit they were attached to was not uncommon , when I was attached to the RHG (Blues) I wore RHG shoulder titles. I woukld guess that all the REME at the RAC trg Centre were either an LAD or a workshop especially as several of the men on parade are J/NCOs.

Tim and Mike,
I think you are spot-on right in your identifications. I have a note from a National Archives file that in 1957 four regular regiments took over the training role from the Training Regiments. They are listed as The Greys, 16th/5th Lancers, 11th Hussars and 7th RTR. All of which suggests that the group nearest the camera are REME, possibly the LAD, attached to The Greys. Jon |

Thanks for all the input on these.
Just adding that this card came with the pictures and mentions the L.A.D.
