Default Robert Taylor Aviation Artist

Hello All, The question is, "Am I missing something or am I completely wrong". I have just completed after over 48 hours, a jig-saw puzzle of the painting by Robert Taylor entitled "D-Day - The Airborne Assault". (I will never attempt a 1000 piece puzzle again!) I have a book of many of his paintings and admire them immensely. The problem I have is that about a quarter of the way to completion, something began to bug me! The write-up on the box describes the event shown as "As the first streaks of dawn came over the horizon"........................ "Seen crossing the Normandy beaches are C47 Dakotas................... All the aircraft depicted are flying from Right to Left. That's Daks, P51s, and of course, Waco gliders. The beach is below in bottom left corner while the Channel goes away into the distance and to the right, dotted with many ships and landing craft. My surprise is that the Sun has just risen and appears to be covered by the engine nacelle of the second P51 ( from the perspective of the viewer ) while the sky is a bright golden changing to darker on the right of the painting. So back to my question, What have I missed? As sure as I am that the Sun rises in the East, I'm sure that an expert on the forum will point me in the right direction! It's still a fantastic picture! Regards to all, David J.

I cannot believe that aircraft that appear to be flying NORTH, therefore crossing the ENGLISH coast, is a judicious use of artistic license, I MUST be missing something somewhere! Help me out here somebody Please, before I go BONKERS!
