Unknown Bullion Cap Badge
Does anyone recognise this lovely, old and deeply padded gold bullion cap badge?
Features a coat of Arms in the centre, possibly of a City? Looks either part of a Victorian Peaked Forage Cap badge or could be naval. In the spirit of the forum, I think if identified it will be probably outside my collecting theme and will be sold on eventually. Any ID gratefully received. reagrds

It looks Manchester related to me, the Fluer de Les although associated Regimentally with Manchester was also adopted by the city for instance on the Town Hall Clock face, there is a Bee and what could be a Ship both found on the Manchester coat of arms, also what looks like a Slaves Head which could have revelance to Cotton Industry.
Could be a Masters badge for the Ship Canal? Paul |

Simon,
Your badge is from the Falmouth Docks & Engineering Company. Probably a Harbour Master's (or similar cap badge). Dave. Last edited by altcar73; 21-06-18 at 07:31 PM. |

Dave,
Thank you for your great knowledge and ID of the badge. A little research reveals it was probably worn by the Falmouth Harbour Commissioners also. regards

Simon,
I think the Falmouth Harbour Commissioners (who are a separate organisation) wore a different design. As an aside, your badge is post 1960. Prior to 1960, the Falmouth Dock Co. used the Cornwall shield with the PoW feathers atop as their badge. The image below shows the Falmouth Harbour Commissioners Harbour Master wearing their cap badge. Dave. |
