Default RM Commandos Help!

In need of help please guys. My brother was a member of 29 commando regiment one of the first of 14 men to be trained as a commando instructor gunner providing artillery support for the royal marine commando brigade based in Plymouth..

On completion of his training he became an instructor receiving his green beret. He was also para trained.

A friend of mine is putting a family military display together in a show case and has asked for badges. The thing is what badge would he have worn on his beret a RA badge (If so what size?) a RM badge or a cloth commando patch sword in hand type badge?

I’ve found a brass queen’s crown RA badge, with slider, but it is smaller than the standard sized WWII RA badge and it’s too big to be a collar badge.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Roy (Wombat)

Default 29 Cdo Regt

Hi,
He would have worn the RA beret badge. Not sure what the actual size would have been though.

Sounds like the brass one that you have might be the right size.

I will try and find the 29 Commando magazine that I have that has some photos in from this period to see what other insignia they are wearing. I know that later on they wore Royal Marine issue wings and rank badges.

You could also try the Commando Gunner Forum http://commandogunner.editboard.com/forum.htm .

Regards

Danny

Roy, The insignia your Brother wore was this. (less the Combined Forces DZ which is 148 Bty only) The badge in the beret is AA, which he could (should) have worn or one of the small Brass QC badges as shown which he most likely did wear.
The stable belt pic is borrowed as I've no photos of mine.
