What a wonderful find. I wonder if it would be possible to post a larger picture of the front.
Maid of Erin Harp surmounted by what looks like a Victoria Crown but it could be earlier. Hard to see from the photo/ Is there anything below the harp? Definitely an Irish unit. There were a lot of local militias in late Georgian and Victorian times so could be one of those or a regular line regiment. I'm sure there are experts on here who will ID it for you. I love it and a lovely find. Well done. James |

As James has said, a wonderful find. I wonder if it connected to the 71st or Fermanagh Regiment of Militia.
Hopefully an Irish collector will be along and will be able to positively identify it. P.B.

Highly Doubtful, as the Leinster Regiment never used the symbol of the Maid of Erin, and the predecessor was the 100th Regiment of Foot and was only a single battalion and had no connection with Ireland.

The plate dates post 1793 and it looks like a Georgian Crown as opposed the Victorian. So sometime between 1793 and 1830. I'm guessing most likely Cir.1800.
There were a few units numbered 1st and the location of where you found it might give a clue to it's identity. The 100th Regiment of Foot was originally the County of Dublin Regiment prior to service in Canada where it earned the full title of the 100th Regiment of Foot (Prince Regent's County of Dublin Regiment). Disbanded 1818. Regards, Dave |
