Off at a tangent
Not something I have gone out of my way to acquire in the past but I have bought a number of Regimental and Formation shields recently to units that are of interest to me.
I do find these interesting particularly those to scarcer units or those with presentation plates on them. Does anyone else have any in their collections ? P.B.

I have RRF, Int. Corps, UNFICYP, UNIPTF, and also Guards Armoured Div, as my father was in it.
The UNIPTF plaque, given to me by colleagues some years ago, it's always sat in a drawer, I may actually stick it on a wall in my new store room cum workshop cum bar. It's not military, but it's colourful. Last edited by leigh kitchen; 13-06-17 at 05:16 PM. Reason: Image added. |

I have a small collection of RAOC unit plaques, mainly units I was posted to or involved with, as well a mess crockery, cutlery & place mats. In fact most RAOC items of interest not just badges & the like.

I have a couple of RCAF plaques, and one RAF one. It's something I think I'll be adding to as and when they come my way. They are a sort of 'badge'.

one of my local antique centres has a fair few of them and they seem to be a reasonably low priced item to collect.

I reckon I've got over 200 of the things. British ones from SF, Para, RM, AAC, most of the units my brothers served in, dozens of Rhodie UDI period Army ones and dozens of South African SF and Para ones too. Still got plans to hang some in my den but it hasn't happened yet. Rarest are LRDG, early SBS, Rhodie SAS and Selous and SADF Recces.

I have collected three of the known post WW2 Leics Yeo (RA) wall shields ....plus a small hand made one with an original cap badge slotted in it with proper Regimental Colours (not RA).

I have a collection of around 20 plaques of units I have served in, been attached to or associated with over my 24 years service.
I will publish them as a album soon. Jerry

I think I have about 20 items from my 32 years service representing units that I served in or supported. I will retrieve them from loft storage and make an album.

Gurkha Parachute Btn Shields
I've collected a number of Gurkha shields over the years - but I limit myself to the hand painted type as I think they have a lustre that the screen print ones just don't have. Anyway these are the two rarest are these ( sorry about the quality of the pictures ) but two short lived units and both with a plaque to the commanding officer. 154 Gurkha Parachute Btn ( Lt Col G O White ) and 153
(sic) 2nd Bt Gurkha Parachute Regiment * ( Not sure that was ever the correct title ) ( Col H R E Willis ). |
