The formation sign - a white five pointed star on a blue background - worn by the British Army's Russian Relief Force in 1919. The shape of the background, whether triangular, circular or square etc, varied with the arm of the Force that it represented.

Mike do you have the scheme of shapes?
There was a contingent of Canadians with the North Russia Force. It included two field batteries, some ancillary personnel. A unique group, the Malamutes, Canadian dog sled drivers were sent as well, to assist with supply lines. Mixed success. They wore a shoulder title with their designation.

I regret that I don't. The illustration in V Wheeler-Holohan's book shows the star on a disc and the one in the John Player set of cigarette card shows the star on a square. My example is also on a square. None of which helps you much! Mike

The Russian Relief Force sign as worn after the deployment by Cpl Arthur Percy Sullivan VC, AIF. He is commemorated at his place of death in 1937 - on the iron railings of Wellington Barracks.
