Default 7th and 12th Field Regiments RA signs?

Recently purchased on ebay, sold by guy who frankly admitted he had not a clue about what formation signs could they be.
according to Morris, formation sign of the 7th and 12th Field Regiments royal Artillery was a red "2" on a blue diamond, but when I have taken this pics, I have realized diamonds are unmistakingly black, therefore another formation? thank you in advance for your knowledge, gents!

Not my property so apologies to the owner. Here's an example of a genuine combination to 7 Fd Regt RA - just for the colour match. Compare the backing colour of the regimental flash to the 3 Inf Div sign and RA AoS strip.

The number 2 was not used in 3 Div, however it was worn in Malta by:

12th Field Regiment Royal Artillery
A red figure two on a very dark blue diamond shaped background.
Worn in Malta during 1943, the Regiment became 17th Medium Regt RA., in 1944 and disbanded in 1946. Not confirmed if the badge continued to be worn after conversion to Medium.

The badges are quoted as being blue, but they are a very dark blue like the Number 1 Dress.

***

The number 3 was worn by 7th Field Regt RA., from September 1939 to August 1945.
The number 5 was worn by 33rd Field Regt RA., from September 1939 to August 1945.

If you do not want the twos, please let me know.

Marc

Precisely! John Waring in his Identification Pamphlet No 1 described the backing colour as "dark blue". I have examples of these flashes for 7, 12, 23, 33, 76 (H) Fd Regts and 20 ATk Regt - all EonF and in every case the backing colour is black (or if blue, the blackest dark blue imaginable). Mike

Marc,
Have you a positive ID on the variant bearing the numeral 1? Logically it would have been HQ RA 3 Inf Div in the BEF period. Mike

Yes, the information I have came from surviving Battery Commanders, however I do believe that is not so now (2017).

There are various styles of the number, and it was worn by 3 DIV HQ RA staff throughout the Divisions existence.

If constantly washed the badges do fade to a more recognised colour of blue.

Very useful - thank you. My example attached. Unusually "with serifs". Mike
