52nd Oxfordshire Regiment Buttons
Spotted these on ebay tonight and I'm pretty certain that they are modern reproduction buttons made for the re-enactor market. Difficult to be 100% sure without having them to hand but they certainly don't look like any Victorian period British military buttons I've seen before, not with those backs and shanks.

Not even a re-enactor would want to be seen dead with these.
Chinese button factories are churning out an endless mass of buttons of all kinds of designs. |

Hello btns
Thanks for your thoughts. To be honest I thought Chinese produced buttons would have been better than these! Those on offer here have a rather home-made, cottage industry look to them which is why I first thought 'early re-enactment'. I've seen the buttons produced for the 95th Rifles re-enactment group and they are very good, even down to an accurate backmark unfortunately (no need for that in my view!). We will all need to be on our toes if we are not going to get caught out by some of these as the quality will undoubtedly improve as time goes by. Roger |
