Default 92nd Gordon Highlanders

Picked this up recently but I am uncertain as to what era it was worn, other than Victorian, or if it is an Officer's or OR's badge. Not certain as to what head dress it may have been worn on. Lugs have been replaced and badge has had a light cleaning but otherwise looks original to me. Measures 91 mm tall by 72 mm wide. Brass overlays on white metal I believe.

Hi BC
Well, let me put it this way ; I hope you did not pay a lot for it because I'm afraid it is one of the now classic fake/repro items currently being "peddled" on the badge dealers market scene. They are indeed nice looking badges, which might explain why they are so prolific in white-metal, all brass, and bi-metal (sometimes gilded) etc.
The only correct version of this is however the all silver, one piece, cast (un-voided) fitting as mounted on the officer's rectangular copper-gilt shoulder belt plate circa 1840 to 1881. This has a number of short slotted studs at the rear for fitting to the plate.
There is no contemporary evidence whatsoever that this was ever used on any form of headdress, although a few recent publications assert that it was.
Unfortunately however, at least a couple of well known Auctioneers have recently included this (and similar items) in their Sales lists ... which just goes to show how such ghastly fakes can eventually be accepted as "pukka" collectors items. Regards. Jeff

PS: I believe there was a similar thread about this badge some time ago. Can't find it now tho'

I agree with Jeff, in that I can tell its not of Victorian manufacture, as it is lacking in the crisp, sharp quality and instead is rounded and smooth if you understand.

Well put together for sure and designed to deceive which it is clearly doing.

get your money back!

regards

Default Your valued opinion

I picked this up today and I am wondering if it is a good fake or good?

All the Best

It looks like a couple of Fake badges thrown together. Blinged up rubbish I'm afraid.
