Default Royal Scots Greys officers badges

Gentlemen,

there are some Royal Scots Greys officers badges listed on ebay.

Among others one would like to mention these:

1.Silver-plated collar dogs: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/British-A...cAAOSwACRapp0T

2. Silver cap badge, but in ORs shape: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/British-A...sAAOSwho1aqP9L

I would like to know your opinion about these badges. Are they genuine? Did it happen that the Regimental officers used to wear not silver but silver-plated collar dogs? Or cap badge of the ORs shape?

Regards,
Michael

Default RSG Officers Collars

Gentlemen,

what era do these RSG officers collar badges come from? It's hallmarked "STERLING" on the back. Your ideas are much appreciated.

Michael

Hey Michael

If these collars are "Marked" Sterling this does not constitute a "Hallmark".

A hallmark must have a assay office mark, Ie a leopards head for London or an anchor for Birmingham etc, also a lion which indicates that its .925 silver and a year date letter.

If it does not have these marks it May be sterling silver but its not Hallmarked Silver.

I hope this helps.

Regards Phil.

Hi Phil,

Thank you for clarifying. However, I still have the same question: what era do these collars come from?

Impossible to be sure, but my guess would be WW2 era or after. Not likely to be much earlier than that.
