'Home Fires', howlers
Like many other 'other halfs', I have recently been subjected to the truly dreadful 'soap' that is 'Home Fires'.
But, the last couple of weeks have proved quite entertaining, who else has spotted the many historical and factual errors? I will start the ball rolling. It is 1940, just after Dunkirk, and there is a scene featuring a large badge to the Royal Observer Corps, featuring a Queens crown. T ps it was not made 'Royal' until 1941, so, 2 mistakes there. |

Yes. The Mark IX Spitfires are another "give-away". Also, am I not right in thinking mouth-to-mouth resuscitation was a post war technique ?

I had to google what this thread is all about. Never heard of it before.
I couldn't watch it as one of my favourite things to do, when tv is on, is to rip programs/films apart.

Plenty of scope for that with this one Phil. I have been barred from the room for the rest of the series. (no great hardship to be honest).

After pointing out Mel Gibsons numerous historical inaccuracies in The Patriot and Braveheart, I am banned from watching historical films in our house when others are about.

Don't get banned from the TV, get a smaller one for those who wish to watch such things and put it in another room.

From the little I have seen of Home Fires the story lines seem to be a load of --- but I do have an interest in the location where it was filmed. A relative was almost certainly a pupil at Aldersey Grammar School at Bunbury in the 1880`s.
Bunbury ,which is not far from here, is where the village scenes are filmed. A lot of the open countryside shots were filmed on the Cholmondeley Estate ( also fairly close by ), but the interesting thing is that Czech soldiers were housed on the Cholmondeley Estate during WW2 and in fact it is only in the last few years that the annual reunions ended when most of the Czech soldiers who had been in Cheshire in the war had passed on. I see the series is based on a book and I do wonder if the basic story behind the book was based on the authors personal experiences. http://www.mzv.cz/london/en/what_s_n...nister_to.html P.B.
