A very classy-looking vessel - lots of polished brass. What does the rating's (Other rank's) cap tally read? RASC FLEET?

Mike, yes, RASC FLEET. He's a civilian seaman, probably locally recruited.

The Chief Engineer of the LCT ARROMANCHES, one of the vessels of the Royal Army Service Corps Fleet serving in the Far East, Warrant Officer I H.W. Lockey, carries out preliminary checks in the engine room prior to the ship's departure from Singapore to Penang. The ship's 4th Engineer, Corporal Omir bin Ishak, a locally enlisted Malay NCO, calls out the check list.
