Default Military Police Edward VII Cap Badge

Hi all,

I've just bought this badge, it was sold as a reproduction so I'm looking for a bit of education.

What makes this stand out as a reproduction?

I've taken a few quick photos on my phone, I can take better ones later tonight if needed.

Thanks for the help,

Michael

Hello,

Firstly the poor quality of the manufacturing process, its just very messy, not neat.

Lack of voiding in certain areas.

Wrong colour of metal.

Yes i agree the quality is poor. There are some nice ones about, you'll be able to compare them now. Good luck.

Not an area I collect to, but wasn't the Military Police not formed until a few years after WWI?

Not really, they had a provost marshall in the 15th Century. Military Mounted Police and the Military Foot Police were 2 seperate units from 1885.

The mounted elements and MFP amalgamated in 1926 to form the Corps of Military Police and became Royal in 1946.

The badge illustrated was worn from c. 1902 to the death of Ed 7th.

regards

Hi Andy,

No they were around a bit before that. There is a famous extract from Charles I's time that is quite often used as a leaving gift:

You may be thinking of the MMP and MFP merging in 1926 to form the Corps of Military Police or possibly them getting the Royal prefix just after WW2.

Sorry Simon, I missed your reply some how.

I watched a real one of these badges sell at the C&T auction this morning, it went for £65. Once all the sales fee and post is added on I think I'll have to make do with my copy for now.

Very nice BJ, I take it's that's your personal one rather than one from your shop?

Hi All,

I was just wondering what people think of this one, is it another copy / repro? Looking at the scroll on BJ's I'm guessing yes?

Thanks,

Michael
