Newfoundland Regiment
Hi all,
Nice clear shot of Newfoundland Regiment collar badges on this postcard. Think shoulder flash and uniform is WW2 period but that is why I am posting as just not sure! Cheers Dean. |

Hi Dean, First World War. In the SWW, the Newfoundlanders active force were artillery units.

Hi Mike/Dean, The Newfoundlanders were not a component of the CEF during the First WW. Newfoundland was a separate dominion and not part of Canada. The Newfoundland Regiment served with the 29th Division, and late in the war the 9th Division. The formation patch is a bit of a mystery, as it is not from either of those divisions.

Many thanks Bill and Mike,
Always nice to learn in this manner and to contribute to our hobby, with the card being sourced over here it makes you wonder if he came over with the card etc, cheers Dean. |

Pete has a couple of battle dress blouse pictures on that thread which shows the wide, thin 2-bar formation sign below the shoulder titles as beings blue to front/red to back. I'm wondering if the patch in the top photo isn't a wonky sized version of that?

Hi David, The coloured bar in the image in your post is the arm of service stripe, in this case the artillery. The first image is FWW vintage, and aos were not worn during that war.
